Baby is Not Eating!!

Hubby called this morning and told me that Ashraf has not been eating well. Ashraf prefers eating home-cooked food and if we do eat out, he would eat only a little. When I say home-cooked food, it must eaten at his home. Not nyai’s home, not nenek’s home, not anybody’s home.

At home, he can eat 2-3 servings of rice. And hubby told me he refused to drink his milk too. Hmm… he just recovered from fever and cough last week. I am worried he might fall sick again if he's still not eating well for the next few days. Hubby said,” You are not here and he is not eating.” I told him not to repeat those words again as I would be so tempted to take the first flight out!

I asked Amirul and Azirul if they would be ok if I join Daddy and Ashraf in Singapore for a few days. Well, as expected, the answer was NO! On second thoughts, I decided to give this trip back home, a miss. I could not bear to leave them eventhough I actually miss my mom and dad so much. Even if I can spend 1 hour with them it would mean so much to me. *sigh*

To make myself busy and my mind occupied, I started browsing the kids’ photo album. Comparing their looks from when they were a baby and now. And decided to post the pictures here....

Amirul at 9mths & Amirul - 2 yrs with Azirul - 3 weeks

Azirul at 4mths & Amirul - 5yrs with Ashraf - 2 weeks

Then :-Azirul - 4yrs, Amirul - 6yrs & Ashraf 4mths

Now :- Amirul - 9yrs, Azirul 7yrs, Ashraf 2.5yrs

How fast time flies!!! Feel so old now!

I Beg You...

I didn't sleep well last night. Miss my "baby bear" and "Daddy bear". My 2 big boys quickly took their pillows and bolsters to my room when I told them that they can sleep with me last night. Secepat kilat!

And this morning after both left for school, the house is very quiet. I thought of going back to sleep but my pc is calling me.. hehe. So boring! I could actually go to the gym or go for a swim. But bum is too heavy. Hmm.. maybe we will go to Gurney Plaza for dinner . I'm craving for Nando's chicken. So Yummy!

On Tuesday, accompanied hubby to a shop at Island Plaza. I waited outside while he was talking to one of the staff there. He came out and told me,"You know what? That guy called me Abang!". My hubby is not comfortable with people, other than my brother and brother-in-laws calling him Abang. He prefers them call him by his name. Anyway I told him "It's ok for that guy to call you abang but if he called you Pakcik, then I will go in and beat him up." He was surprised and asked me why. I said,"If he called you Pakcik, then he would call me Makcik!!! I don't want!". hheheheh..

Dear hubby, I am so in love with you!

Lonely.... I'm so Lonely....

2 entries today....

Hubby and my baby Ashraf will be going to Singapore tonight. Hubby has an appointment there and since he will be there for 6 days, he decided to bring Ashraf along. Also because my parents-in-law miss Ashraf so much. Hubby will take Ashraf to visit my mum on Sunday. Sunday??? ohhh.. there goes my ikan terubuk!!! Will miss my ikan terubuk this Sunday cause hubby not around to take us for brunch. Not that I cannot drive but I rather eat something else at home than leaving my place, starting the engine and driving on the road with so many courteous drivers here. I'll end up leaving the car on the road and walk home... Really!

Yesterday, I managed to bake some pineapple tarts for my MIL and my mum. Have been baking pineapple tarts for the whole of last week.. craving! Cannot wait for Hari Raya! Actually already baked some last few days but some got burnt. But luckily we still have some pineapple fillings left so I baked again yesterday. Unfortunately, the last few pieces we ran out of pineapple fillings. So I used strawberry jam. And it turned out like this....

Yes, those with strawberry jam doesn't look appealing. But it's delicious! Not enough...Will bake again this weekend! hahah!

I've received email from a lady asking me if I could make Lollypink Barefoot Sandals and Princess Arianna Pink for adult . After checking my beads, I told her I could make about 2 pairs of Lollypink for her. Placed orders with my supplier from US for Princess Arianna and also other designs. My Lollypink is ready and my maid copied the design and made a LollyRed too. hehe.

Also I managed to finish my Suede Laces and ready to pack and pass to hubby. He will then pass them to my sister, Lina.

Well... I will miss my dearest beloved hubby and my baby so so so much. So used to having 2 guys sleeping with me every night and without them... I'm lonely... I'm so lonely... but I've got 2 guys waiting for these 2 to go so they can take over... hehehe..

The last time hubby and baby went to Singapore was about 1.5 mths ago and that was only for 2 nights. But this time, 5 nights! Dunno how is my baby going to cope without me... or more like... how is my hubby going to manage Ashraf without me...hehehe..pandai pandai lah u buat nasib. Anyway they will be staying with my sister-in-law and my mil is there to take care of Ashraf when hubby goes out for his meetings. This is the face that I will miss sooooo much! Mama loves you so much, Baby!

Last night while hubby was packing his stuff, I asked him... Will you miss me, dear? hehehe.. He said,"Of course I will miss you, baby. You know I will miss you. I never like to be away from you, baby." ahhhh... so sweet right... that's my hubby! Love you so much, hubby.

Lizzy McGeli

Sis Muna wrote about her "friend" in the kitchen yesterday. And I would also like to tell you a story abt Lizzy McGeli too.

Last week, my 2.5 yrs old son, Ashraf was telling me something and was pointing at the kitchen but I was not paying attention as I was busy watching tv. So I just nodded my head and said yes, ok. hehehe.. I thought he was pointing at my maid's hairband on the floor. So I told him to give it back to my maid. He then went to the kitchen, dunno what he did and to the living, took a piece of tissue and handed it to me. I asked him what was the tissue for. He said,"mama, zard." I went to the kitchen and saw a dead lizard with isi perut terkeluar, lidah terjuntai... he stepped on that poor lizzy mcgeli!!! makkk geliiiii...

Last night I saw a baby lizard in the kitchen. Ashraf got excited. I told my maid to kill it before Ashraf step on it again!

Guyanese Coconut Buns

INGREDIENTS:

· 2 cups all-purpose flour

· 1 cup white sugar

· 1 teaspoon baking powder

· 1/2 teaspoon salt

· 1 cup butter, cut into pieces

· 2 eggs

· 1/2 cup milk

· 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

· 1/2 teaspoon almond extract

· 3/4 cup flaked coconut

DIRECTIONS:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

In a large bowl, stir together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add butter, and cut in using a pastry blender or a fork until the mixture resembles fine crumbs. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and almond extract. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients, and pour in the wet ingredients. Add coconut, and mix just enough to blend. Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets.

Bake for 20 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden brown.

Which child you love most?

I had posted this question on a forum and would also like to post the question here.
My ex-colleague asked me which of my 3 children I love most. I told her that I love them equally. She told me that it was not possible for any mother to love her kids equally. She also mentioned that even the fingers on our hands are short and long and that love too would not be equal.

I asked her that if the fingers on her hands were not of equal length, does she love them equally. I'm sure she loves her fingers equally because each fingers have their own specialty and purpose. Just like my children, they have different characters but I love them equally. But she still doubts me.

Well... do you parents love your kids equally? Is there any such thing as loving one more than the others? Is there any favoritism in the family?

Why Are We Complaining?

I received this email from a friend and would like to share it with you. How lucky we are! How fortunate our children are! Even though we do not live in luxury but we live comfortably. Alhamdulillah!
Does studying annoys you?

Not them

Hate eating veggies?

They starve from hunger!

On a diet? They die from it!
Does your parents care tire you?

They don't have any! Bored of the same game?

They have no option!

Someone got you Adidas instead of NIKE?

They have only ONE brand! Aren't thankful for the bed to sleep in? They'd wish not to wake up!

To our children...and to myself...
Observe around you and be thankful for all that you have in this transitory lifetime…
We are fortunate, we have much more than what we need to be content.
Let’s try not to feed this endless cycle of consumerism and immorality in which this “modern and advanced” society forgets and ignores the other two thirds of our brothers and sisters.

The Result is Out

Alhamdulillah... I am so thankful that I do not have thyroid. But doc said I do have swollen gland but no traces of thyroid activities in my blood.

And yes, I do have all the symptoms and that I do not know why. Doc said that it could be due to stress.
Dear hubby, doc attributed all these symptoms to stress. It's time to destress...

can we go for a holiday? heheh...

Sickening, Sicken, Sick... Sucks!

Waiting for my doctor to call me. My blood test results would be out today. My heartbeat goes ping pong piang...

I have not been feeling very well the last few months. Feeling giddy and weak. Gets tired and irritable easily. I am not a Pill-Poppin-Person. Hate pills so much! I suspect that it's anemia as I have Thalassemia Minor.

I didn't know about it until when I was pregnant with my 2nd child. That explains why I was always and easily gets tired and pale when I was little (and till now). My mum told me that I looked so pale, like a ghost! Well, no one in my family have heard of Thalassemia then. Mum and dad thought that it was because I didn't take enough vitamin supplements. I was always falling sick. The only one in the family that would be in and out of the hospitals.

My giddiness got really bad on Saturday and hubby brought me to the doctor. My doctor examined me and she suspected that I might have Thyroid! Huh! Oh please! As it is I already have enough health problems and now another one??!!

Now I am waiting for my blood test results to evaluate the haemoglobin level in my blood (Thalassemia) and for thyroid. I really pray and hope for good news!

Will keep you updated on the results.... in the meantime, Muna has wrote an interesting post about a Malay man who is deceiving our young muslims and converting them into Christianity. Masya'Allah...you should read her blog!

To Someone We Love

Today is my Mother-in-law's Birthday. Sorry mak, we almost forgot your birthday and thank you for reminding us when we called you last night...heheh.. we love you, mak!

This is for you, mak.

You have always been where we return,
The home that is our harbor from the sea,
The place where what we are can easy be,
With nothing we need alter or unlearn.

That you would give has always been a given.
Your love for us is something simply there,
As plain and necessary as the air,
And just as unpretentious and unbidden.

And though we cannot give you now your due,
Which is beyond what these poor words can say,
We give you all we can this special day,
Which is the treasure of our love for you

Happy Birthday, Mak. May Allah Shower You with Blessings.

Mama! Look! Nyai!

Nothing much to blog today. My email inbox is empty today as my sisters are not working, so no emails from them. They told me that they are taking their kids for a swim, I bet it's at Downtown East. I miss all these family outings and gatherings. I used to love organising gatherings or outings; and also because they always make me the organiser. I repeat.... I USED TO LOVE, ok. Now I am very lazy. So sisters, when I go back to SG, please don't ask me to organise anything... heheheh.
Yesterday, while I was watching tv with the kids, Ashraf called me,"Mama! Look! Nyai!" I turned to look at him. I quickly grabbed my digicam and took pictures of him imitating my mother-in-law with his towel (maid just finished cleaning him after he pooped).
Look at his naughty face!

And this is Ashraf's Nyai (my dearest Mother-in-law) with Ashraf when he was 8 months.

Have a great weekend everyone! Ikan Terubuk here I come...

To Our Children...

Dear Son / Daughter

The day that you see me old and I am already not, have patience and try to understand me …

If I get dirty when eating… if I can not dress… have patience. Remember the hours I spent teaching it to you.

If, when I speak to you, I repeat the same things thousand and one times… do not interrupt me… listen to me.

When you were small, I had to read to you thousand and one times the same story until you get to sleep…

When I do not want to have a shower, neither shame me nor scold me… Remember when I had to chase you with thousand excuses I invented, in order that you wanted to bath…

When you see my ignorance on new technologies… give me the necessary time and not look at me with your mocking smile…

I taught you how to do so many things… to eat good, to dress well… to confront life…

When at some moment I lose the memory or the thread of our conversation… let me have the necessary time to remember… and if I cannot do it, do not become nervous… as the most important thing is not my conversation but surely to be with you and to have you listening to me…

If ever I do not want to eat, do not force me. I know well when I need to and when not.

When my tired legs do not allow me walk... give me your hand… the same way I did when you gave your first steps.

And when someday I say to you that I do not want to live any more… that I want to die… do not get angry… some day you will understand…

Try to understand that my age is not lived but survived.

Some day you will discover that, despite my mistakes, I always wanted the best thing for you and that I tried to prepare the way for you..

You must not feel sad, angry or impotent for seeing me near you. You must be next to me, try to understand me and to help me as I did it when you started living.

Help me to walk… help me to end my way with love and patience. I will pay you by a smile and by the immense love I have had always for you.

I love you son/daughter....… Your father & mother

Penang Hill

Went to Penang Hill yesterday. Left home at 8.30am and reached top of the hill at 9.30am. Had nasi lemak for breakfast. Took the kids to the playground and then to the mini Bird Park.
About 5 minutes in the Bird Park, Ashraf got an insect bite on his left cheek. Forgot to apply insect repellant on him.
Yesterday he looked like this....

Photos at Penang Hill..
Bottom of the hill.

Top of the hill.

Here... you can see Penang Bridge.

Found a millipede... as big as my hubby's thumb and about 20cm long... eekksss

When we looked up, we saw big spiders on the trees just above our head. About 10 or more. Double eekksss..

Going down and home....

The happy but tired faces of my princes.

And today my baby looks like this....

Brought him to doctor as the swelling has spread to his eye. Well... doctor confirmed nothing serious as he has no fever but advised to monitor his condition. Rather cranky today... my poor baby.

Language We Speak...

My db hubby is a Chinese and grew up speaking English. His understanding of Malay language is moderate but he always tries his best. My kids speak English to my maid and at times would try hard to speak simple Malay to her. Most of the time, I would be their translator. They learnt some basic in school but didn't really get to practise them at home or with friends. I have my own reason as to why I do not want them to have Malay tuition here in Penang. I know they will have problems in school when we move back to Singapore. And that is why I have started to teach them myself.

Here are some funny incidents that I recalled with regards to the language we speak... English.

* Hubby was driving when we saw a massive traffic jam on the other side of the road. We started to talk about it and why it happened. My maid asked,"Jalan itu selalu machet ya?" Hubby replied,"Ya. I was surprised that he knows what "machet" means. Then, suddenly, he turned to me and asked,"What was the question?".... hmm

* My brother was telling hubby about a murder case that happened last year in Singapore. The murderer had brutally killed his wife. Then my brother said,"His wife was jambu (pretty), seh. Tapi, laki dia punya muka pecah ah." My hubby,"Huh? Kenapa laki dia punya muka pecah? I thought the wife was brutally murdered." Translator to the rescue....I told my hubby,"What he meant was... the husband is ugly lah. Not pecah as in broken."

This one incident that happened to me will always be on my mind...
While waiting for hubby to buy roti prata (roti canai) I ordered drinks from a food stall. Told my elder son to wash his hands and told my youngest son to throw his lollipop. My youngest son started throwing tantrum when I took away his lollipop after he refused to listen to me. I consoled him.. and of course all this "conversations" were in English. No accents, no slang. Nada!

Next to our table, 2 female food stall workers were peeling onions and potatoes. I knew the owner. A nice lady and she sometimes speaks English to us. Anyway, one of the worker had a little girl with her and this girl was sitting on the table. Hubby came and we started to eat. One of the lady left the table and had left a knife just right behind the little girl. I was afraid that the girl might accidentally fall backwards and get hurt. So I quickly told the lady, about the knife, "Kak, ada pisau pat belakang anaknya tu." She took away the knife and continued her work; without even a word of thanks. Well... i don't really bother about that at all.

Then another woman came to her and they started to talk. I don't really know what the conversation was at first as I was feeding my son. After a while their voices started to get louder. The conversation went like this:-

Worker :- Ala, sedara depa pat Ostolia (Australia) pun tak ler pi cakap Om Putih (a relative of mine from Australia didn't even speaks English)
Woman :- Ya kah? hmm.. ni Anita Serawak pun tak lah cakap om putih pat tv. Laki dia pun mat saleh jugak. Dia pun cakap melayu.
Worker :- Tulah. Anita Serawak cakap melayu lah pat tv kan. Tak lah cakap om putih. Sedara depa dapat laki pun mat saleh tapi masih jugak cakap melayu. Dengan kito kito ni dia cakap melayu jugak. bla bla bla.. yada yada yada... bla bla bla....
It then struck me that they were actually talking about me. I am one person who would not just keep quiet when someone or anyone tries to be funny with me. But somehow, i remembered what my mom told me (cause she knows how hot-tempered her daughter is) that when you are in other people's country, please bite your tongue when you hear anything that doesn't sounds good to you. Don't ever confront them or scold them. Especially, when you are eating at their place. We just don't know what they can do to hurt us. Well... i had to keep my mouth shut but my heart was pounding fast. They simply didn't stop there.. kept talking about Anita Serawak and this relative that still speak Malay eventhough their husbands are English men.
All this while hubby was busy eating. Of course, he doesn't really bother nor understand what they were talking about. After we finished our food, I told my sons to wash their hands, this time with an accent (ntah accent London ke Australia ke asalkan ada accent sudah) and loudly (cause I got fed-up).
When I asked my hubby later if he knows what the two ladies were talking about. He said,"Yes. They were talking about Anita Serawak. hmm.....
Do you think Anita Serawak speaks Malay to her husband? Of course Anita Serawak speaks Malay on tv if it is a Malay program and speaks English if it's an English program. And of course when Kak Nita kita meet all this makcik makcik, she too will speak malay to them. I was only speaking in English to my family members and these people got bitchy for nothing.
Anyway, mastering English does not make one any less a Malay, Chinese or Indian. If this is the way these people think, wonder where the Government's efforts at encouraging the use of English goes to.... the drain, I hope not.

It's Far, It's Not

This happened last 2 years and would like to share with all of you.
Was walking out of the lift when I met this makcik whom I always said hi to whenever I met her. The conversation was like this:-
Makcik :- Nak pi mana? (where are you going?)
Me :- pegi Cold Storage pat Gurney Plaza (going to Cold Storage at GP)
Makcik :- Jalan kaki pi sana kot? (Walking there?)
Me :- Ya.
Makcik :- Eh, jauh lah. Pi lah panggil teksi. Jauh tu. (Eh that's is far. Call for taxi)
Me:- Jauh? Tak lah. Jalan kaki cuma 10-15 minit je. (Far? No, it's not. It's only about 10-15 minutes walk). Makcik tinggal mana? (where do you live?)
Makcik :- Tinggal pat Telok Bahang. (Live at Telok Bahang)
Me :- Huh! Telok Bahang. Jauh nya. (Huh! Telok Bahang. That is far)
Makcik :- Eh! Tak lah. Mana jauh nya. Naik bas cuma Rm1.20 je. (No. That is not far. If you take bus, the fare is only RM 1.20)
Me :-???
Ok. here is the map. You tell me which one is further!

Sunday Brunch

Our Sunday brunch will have the usual spread of delicious asam pedas, ulam, ikan pari special and ikan terubuk goreng. This is the place where we discovered all kinds of ulam and at this makan place, we saw lots of Chinese eating ulam; all kinds of ulam can be seen on their plates. They too are so expert at eating Ikan Terubuk. We don't see this in Singapore!

Ok. As promised, here is the picture of the food on our table.

Here, there is no such thing as Ikan Terubuk season. They always have Ikan Terubuk every Sunday.

Whenever we have our family visiting us here, we always tell them to stay until Monday (the longer the better) and not to leave on Sunday itself as this is something they should not miss. And after brunch, they told us that "It's worth waiting for!" hahah...
